Mount Vernon Nazarene defeat Lady Cougars 3-1

The Spring Arbor volleyball team hosted the Cougars of Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) for the first game of a two-game home series this weekend.

They lost 3-1, taking the third set 26-24 with encouragement of a screaming women’s soccer team who was amongst those in attendance. The ladies from MVNU outscored the Cougars 25-14 in the first set, 25-20 in the second and 25-18 in the fourth set.

This was the first time the Lady Cougars have had two matches in a row where they have won at least one set since late August.

Freshman Samantha Huber contributed 8 kills on offense to help Ashley Morris and Alyssa Frees, who had 15 and 10 kills on the night respectively. Tenille Marowelli ended the match with 31 assists.

On the defensive end, sophomore libero Lyndsay Murray had 21 digs and Marowelli followed close behind with 17.

The ladies will face-off in an afternoon match against 24th ranked Taylor University on Saturday Oct. 6 at 3 p.m.
