Men’s soccer plays to 1-1 tie with Mount Vernon

On Saturday, the men’s soccer team went on the road to Mount Vernon, OH for a match with Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The Cougars three game win streak would end as the buzzer sounded in a 1-1 tie.

The tie still leaves Spring Arbor undefeated in the Crossroads this year with a 3-0-2 mark as Mount Vernon’s record goes to 2-1-2 in the league.

MVNU scored first in the 18th minute on a throw in that lead to a break away for Kwaku Frimpong.

The rest of the match would go scoreless until in the last minute of play when Godwin Addai would take a loose ball in the box that Mount Vernon wasn’t able to clear and punch it home for the tie.

The Cougars entered the first overtime period with the momentum and had 4 shots on goal compared to MVNU’s one. The second overtime period was evenly matched, with both teams having only 2 shots on goal.

Spring Arbor will host the University of Saint Francis on Oct. 10 for a 7:00 game under the lights. St. Francis is 1-4 in League play so far this year.
