Two Texas kickers excel at extra points

Chance Nevarez the kicker for the Aledo (Texas) High School football team is working toward a national record for consecutive extra-point kicks.

The record stands at 134 set by Kim Braswell of Avondale Estates in Georgia from 1965 to 1968.

Nevarez’s streak is currently 141.

When the news of Nevarez’s streak reached Southlake (Texas) Carroll High School coach Hal Wasson began thinking about his own kicker, Drew Brown.

Wasson asked the team’s kicking coach to look into the number of point-after kicks Brown had made consecutively. Brown made 172 before missing for the first time since late in his sophomore season in 2011.

In an interview with “The Star-Telegram,” Wasson said, “I thought ‘Well, I guess I jinked that deal because we never talked about it and the game after we see it and talk about it, we miss our first extra point.’”

Both streaks are pending approval by the NFHS.
