After spending the past 16 years with the National Federation of State High School Associations, Director of Coach Education Tim Flannery is retiring this summer.
Flannery joined the NFHS in 1998 as assistant director and worked primarily with the NFHS Coaches Association as well as rules responsibilities in the sports of swimming and soccer.
In 2007, the NFHS started its successful Coach Education Program with Flannery as the director. Under Flannery’s guidance, the Coach Education Program has grown to more than 30 online courses.
Prior to joining the NFHS staff, Flannery spent 15 years as the director of athletics for the North Olmsted (Ohio) City Schools. He was named the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Board of Directors in 1991 – the same year he earned his Certified Athletic Administrator status – and served as NIAAA president in 1995.
Before working in the North Olmsted City Schools, Flannery was a business education teacher for 15 years and coached basketball and football for 12 years at the high school level.
Flannery was the recipient of the NIAAA State Award of Merit in 1993, NFHS Citation in 1996 and was named Ohio athletic administrator of the year in 1996. This past December, Flannery was inducted into the NIAAA Hall of Fame.
