Becky Oakes inducted into Missouri Hall of Fame

Becky Oakes, director of sports at the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS),was one of 15 individuals inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame at the January 26 induction ceremony in Springfield Missouri.

Oakes was a three-sport high school and collegiate athlete playing field hockey, volleyball and softball at Rolla (Missouri) High School and Southwest Missouri State University, respectively.

In 1982, she joined the staff of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) where she spent 10 years as assistant and associate director. In 1992, she was named MSHSAA executive director, a position she left to join the NFHS in 2006.

Prior to joining the MSHSAA, Oakes was a teacher, coach and athletic director in the Waynesville (Missouri) Fort Leonard Public School District. She was named coach of the year by the Missouri Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association twice during her tenure with Fort Leonard schools.
