RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers opened their series vs. the Cubs with a 6-0 win on Tuesday night at Comerica Park. Three Detroit pitchers combined on an eight-hit shutout, the seventh shutout of the season for the Tigers. Anibal Sanchez started for Detroit and earned the win after throwing 7.2 shutout innings with six hits allowed, two walks and seven strikeouts. Miguel Cabrera reached base in all four plate appearances, going 3×3 with a run scored, a RBI and a walk. Rajai Davis and Ian Kinsler each had two hits with Davis scoring two runs and Kinsler driving in a pair of run. The Tigers and Cubs conclude their two-game series tonight. Following tonight’s game and an off day on Thursday, the homestand continues with three games vs. Cleveland and two games vs. Cincinnati.

TIGERS SELECT EIGHT PLAYERS ON SECOND DAY OF 2015 MLB DRAFT: The Tigers selected eight players yesterday during rounds 3-10 of the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. The Tigers day two draft picks included righthanded pitcher Drew Smith of Dallas Baptist University, catcher Kade Scivicque of Louisiana State University, centerfielder Cam Gibson of Michigan State University, lefthanded pitcher Matt Hall of Missouri State University, shortstop Nicholas Shumpert of Highlands Ranch High School, righthanded pitcher Dominic Moreno of Texas Tech University, righthanded pitcher Trey Teakell of Texas Christian University and centerfielder Cole Bauml of Northern Kentucky University. The 2015 MLB Draft concludes today with rounds 11-40.

CABRERA EXTENDS ON BASE STREAK TO 27 GAMES: Miguel Cabrera went 3×3 with a run scored, a RBI and a walk in last night’s game to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 27 straight games. During the 27-game streak, Cabrera is hitting .327 (32×98) with 16 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, six home runs and 18 RBI. Cabrera’s streak is the longest active streak in the majors and is his longest since he reached base safely in 32 straight games from July 20-August 29, 2013.

KINSLER PILING UP THE MULTI-HIT GAMES: Ian Kinsler had a pair of hits in last night’s game, marking his fourth multi-hit game in the last five contests. Kinsler now has 22 multi-hit games this season, which ranks seventh in the American League.

RUN AT YOUR OWN RISK: Yoenis Cespedes threw out Junior Lake at home plate in the fifth inning of last night’s game. The outfield assist for Cespedes was his sixth of the season, which ranks tied for third in the American League. Since the start of the 2012 season, Cespedes has 41 outfield assists, which is the second most in the majors during that time period, trailing only Kansas City’s Alex Gordon, who has 45 outfield assists.

WINNING WAYS VS. THE CUBS: With last night’s 6-0 win, the Tigers improved to 14-4 vs. the Cubs since the start of Interleague play, including 10 wins in the last 11 games. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Tigers’ .778 winning percentage vs. the Cubs is the third-highest among Interleague teams that have met at least 15 times. The only teams ahead of Detroit are the White Sox (vs. the Reds) and the Diamondbacks (vs. the Orioles), with both clubs winning exactly 80 percent of those Interleague matchups.

ALL-STAR VOTING STILL OPEN: Voting has started for Major League Baseball’s 86th All-Star Game held at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
