Summer Heats Up as Tigers Host Royals and Red Sox in Six-Game Homestand at Comerica Park

DETROIT – The Tigers host the Kansas City Royals for a three-game series (August 4-6) and will finish up the homestand with a three-game weekend series against the Boston Red Sox (August 7-9). The games on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday are scheduled for 7:08 p.m., while Thursday and Sunday’s games start at 1:08 p.m.

Tuesday, August 4 vs. Kansas City Royals at 7:08 p.m. Gates Open at 5:30 p.m. (Probables: RHP Justin Verlander vs. LHP Danny Duffy) 

  • Kinsler’s Kids: The Kinsler family hosts 90 guests in partnership with The Birthday Party Project, which brings joy to homeless Kinsler's Kids Logochildren through the magic of birthdays. During the summer months, The Birthday Party Project will celebrate its monthly birthday parties at Comerica Park with all the bells and whistles. All guests are treated to a Detroit Tigers game, receive ballpark fare dinner, a cupcake and a Kinsler’s Kids t-shirt. The children celebrating their birthdays that month also receive a personalized authentic Detroit Tigers jersey and an autographed photo signed by Ian Kinsler. The children and families are selected by The Birthday Party Project in conjunction with Coalition on Temporary Shelter (COTS).
  • The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Army Veteran and Tigers Fan, Peter Louisell.
  • The national anthem will be performed by Concordia University Choir.

 Wednesday, August 5 vs. Kansas City Royals at 7:08 p.m. Gates Open at 5:30 p.m. (Probables: RHP Buck Farmer vs. RHP Johnny Cueto) 

  • The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Tigers Fan James Schlip.
  • The national anthem will be performed by the Singing Crusaders.

Thursday, August 6 vs. Kansas City Royals at 1:08 p.m. Gates Open at 11:30 a.m. (Probables: RHP Anibal Sanchez vs. RHP Yordano Ventura) 

  • The game ball will be delivered by Captain Jonathan Turnbull of the United States Army from Gaylord, Michigan. Captain Turnbull recently returned from deployment in Afghanistan. He is a West Point Military Academy graduate and recently graduated Special Forces. Captain Turnbull has proudly served the U.S Army for five years.
  • The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Justin Lipski, representing Massage Green Spa, Tigers Fan Jeff Grimm and 97-year-old Tigers Fan, Catherine “Bunny” Rejefski.
  • The national anthem will be performed by the vocalist Christina Chriss. 

Friday, August 7 vs. Boston Red Sox at 7:08 p.m. Gates Open at 5:30 p.m. 

  • ¡Fiesta Tigres! Luncheon: The sixth annual ¡Fiesta Tigres! Luncheon, sponsored by Miller Lite, will be hosted in the MotorCity Casino Hotel Tiger Club at Comerica Park from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. including a Q&A with special guest and 2006 American League Championship Series MVP, Placido Polanco. This is an invitation only event.
  • Dia en el Parque: Youth baseball and softball players from the Hispanic community will have a special day in the park with Jose Iglesias including an exclusive Q&A session with the Tigers All-Star shortstop in the Brushfire Grill from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. This is a private event.
  • ¡Fiesta Tigres! Launch: As a kickoff to the 2015 ¡Fiesta Tigres! festivities, Sean Blackman in Transit will be performing on the Comerica Park concourse in the Big Cat Court from 5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
  • Placido Polanco Q&A Session: Fans will have the opportunity to experience an up-close and personal one-on-one interview with Placido Polanco. The interview will take place from 6:15 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. on the Comerica Park concourse in the Big Cat Court.
  • Detroit Tigers Foundation 50/50 Raffle: The Detroit Tigers Foundation 50/50 50:50 Foundation LogCharity Raffle continues at Comerica Park this season. This weekend, the raffle will happen on Friday and Saturday. The partner charity for this weekend’s 50/50 raffle is a Play Baseball Detroit youth baseball team. Tickets will be sold on a digital platform and are three for $5, 10 for $10 and 40 for $20. The winner will be announced on the Comerica Park scoreboard before the end of the game. The 50/50 Charity Raffle program has raised more than $1,010,460 for charity with the single largest one-game prize of the program being $17,039.50.
  • The Henry Ford Historic Baseball Players: Historic baseball players from Greenfield Village will be on the Comerica Park concourse and fans will be randomly selected to receive “Innovation Nation” prizes courtesy of The Henry Ford.
  • The game ball will be delivered by Airman First Class Joshua Legant of the United States Air Force from Holly, Michigan. A1C Legant has recently returned from deployment in Qatar. He will be promoted to Senior Airman on August 11th by receiving the Below the Zone Award. A1C Legant has served the U.S Air Force for 2 years.
  • The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by a representive of Pepsi.
  • The national anthem will be performed by the DTE Singers.
  • Friday Night Fireworks: Presented by Pepsi (weather permitting).

Saturday, August 8 vs. Boston Red Sox at 7:08 p.m. Gates Open at 5:00 p.m. 

  • ¡Fiesta Tigres!: The Tigers will host the 10th annual ¡Fiesta Tigres!, sponsored by Miller Lite, to recognize and honor the contributions of Hispanic and Latino players to the game of baseball. Current Tigers players with Hispanic or Latino heritage will be honored as part of the ¡Fiesta Tigres! celebration. In addition, the Tigers will pay tribute to Placido Polanco, a member of the 2006 Detroit Tigers World Series team in a special on-field, pre-game ceremony. Polanco will also throw out a ceremonial first pitch. ¡Fiesta Tigres! will feature live entertainment on the concourse from salsa and merengue band Orquesta Sensacional, Cuban Jazz by Tumbao Bravo, premiere guitar duo Los Primos, Xplozivo and a roaming mariachi. Spanish radio stations, La Mega 88.1 and La Explosiva-WSDS 1480AM will be broadcasting live from the concourse. Returning to ¡Fiesta Tigres! in 2015, the Tigers will wear a special alternate uniform with the Spanish translation of “Tigres” on the chest. The first 10,000 fans 21-and-older will receive a ¡Fiesta Tigres! hat, courtesy of Miller Lite. A special Tigers edition of Mi Gente Magazine will be distributed to the first 5,000 fans upon entrance. Mi Gente Magazine is a Saginaw-based Hispanic lifestyle magazine.   • Jose Iglesias Autograph Signing: Tigers All-Star shortstop Jose Iglesias will be signing autographs at Comerica Park from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the D Shop. Don’t miss this special opportunity to meet Jose at his first public signing in Detroit and get your autograph authenticated by Major League Baseball. The Tigers offer authentication of autographed items at a public signing to make each fan’s autograph unique. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities. A limited supply of tickets are available and can be purchased exclusively at the Detroit Tigers Authentics kiosk in the ballpark located near section 134 or by calling Marc Himelstein, Detroit Tigers Director of Authentics. A ticket is required for admission to the autograph signing. Fans that bring their own items will pay $50 per ticket for autographs on baseballs and flat items such as photos and $75 for all other premium items, personal inscriptions (five words or less) are an additional $20. All tickets include free parking in lots 1, 2 and 3, located near the ballpark.
  • Verlander's Victory for Veterans LogoVerlander’s Victory for Veterans: At all remaining Saturday regular season home games, Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander hosts Veterans from Veterans Affairs Medical Centers throughout the state of Michigan. These Veterans sustained injuries or illness in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom or in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. The Veterans along with their families cheer on the Tigers from the comfort of Verlander’s personal luxury suite. After serving our country, the special day provides American veterans the opportunity to enjoy a Tigers game with their family. Veterans share 18 luxury suite tickets and parking passes in the Tigers Parking Garage. Food and beverage is provided for the guests courtesy of Verlander. Veterans receive a personalized welcome letter from Verlander and all guests receive a Verlander’s Victory for Veterans t-shirt.

  • The game ball will be delivered by Petty Officer First Class Carlos Ramirez of the United States Navy from Grand Ledge, Michigan. Petty Officer Ramirez has served three tours supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait and the Horn of Africa. He has proudly served the United States Navy for 17 years.
  • The national anthem will be performed by vocalist Caleb Gutierrez.
  • Saturday Night Fireworks: A special themed ¡Fiesta Tigres! fireworks display presented by Pepsi (weather permitting) and ¡Fiesta Tigres! postgame Tigers Trivia Challenge.

Sunday, August 9 vs. Boston Red Sox at 1:08 p.m. Gates Open at 11:30 a.m. 

  • Team Mickey All-Star Baseball Tour: The #TeamMickey All-Star Baseball Tour is stopping at Comerica Park. In addition to existing Sunday Kid’s Day events, guests can enjoy exciting Mickey Mouse themed activities including the chance to see three all-new Mickey Mouse animated baseball clips and other fun video clips from the Emmy® and Annie Award-winning “Disney Mickey Mouse” cartoons. Plus, lucky fans will have the chance to win Mickey-themed merchandise by participating in interactive activities throughout the game. Local Boys & Girls Club members and Detroit Tigers Kids Club members will also be selected to attend and participate in the exciting pre-game on-field celebration.   • The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by a lucky Kid’s Club member accompanied by a special guest from Team Mickey.
  • The national anthem and God Bless America will be performed prior to the bottom of the seventh inning by Mosaic Youth Group. 
  • All Sunday home games are Kids Days at Comerica Park. All kids 14-and-under will receive a free promotional item as part of the “Every Kid, Every Sunday” giveaway guarantee, enjoy free rides courtesy of Kroger on the Comerica Bank Carousel or the Fly Ball Ferris Wheel, take part in free face painting, have the chance to win a bicycle and are invited down to the field for Kids Run the Bases courtesy of Aquafina and Meijer following the game, weather permitting.
