Colorado promotes leadership in sportsmanship effort

Sports provide an arena for acceptance among students and an opportunity for students to develop leadership abilities. The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) is doing more than just focusing on good sportsmanship – it also is promoting positive leadership.

“The goal of ‘We are CHSAA’ was to use the natural leadership of students to help schools become more inclusive to all students – to be the people that stop bullying when it’s happening in the halls,” said CHSAA Assistant Commissioner Bert Borgmann.

New Hampshire making impact with Unified Sports program

Unified Sports programs have been developed in many states across the country and the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association (NHIAA) is one of the latest state associations to become involved with its programs in track and field, soccer, basketball and volleyball.

“We started three years ago with soccer, basketball and outdoor track. We have now added volleyball,” said Pat Corbin, NHIAA executive director.

Indians earn rain-shortened 6-2 victory over Pawtucket

The rain ended the Indianapolis Indians’ 6-2 victory against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Tuesday night in the sixth inning. It also halted Gregory Polanco’s chance at hitting the home run he needed to complete the cycle.

In the end, though, the Tribe was victorious for the third straight game – a pleasant sight after losing every game for a week.

Indians lose fourth straight game

In the third game of a four game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Indianapolis Indians found themselves on the losing end of a pitcher’s duel.

Tribe starter Brandon Cumpton pitched seven innings giving up two runs, neither earned, on five hits. He walked one batter and struck out three. This was Cumpton’s first loss of the season.

Indians win, 2-1 over Syracuse on Sunday

Tyler Waldron helped the Indianapolis Indians win again on Sunday, in his first Triple-A start against the Syracuse Chiefs.

Waldron was called up to play with the Indians after Casey Salder was called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier in the day to help add some depth to the Pirates’ bullpen. Entering the game, Waldron had 10.2 scoreless innings pitched this season with Double-A Altoona. His final line was four innings, one run on two hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

Indians comeback to win in walk off fashion against Syracuse

After former Cincinnati Reds’ outfielder Eric Davis threw out the first pitch, the Indianapolis Indians took the field against the Syracuse Chiefs and turned Saturday night into a memorable baseball game. A three-run ninth inning capped off with a single by Michael Martinez drove in the Tribe’s winning run to put them up 6-5 over the Chiefs.

Indianapolis Indians host former Cincinnati Red Eric Davis for “Signature Saturday”

One of the popular promotions at Victory Field is “Signature Saturdays.” The Indianapolis Indians hosted former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Eric Davis on April 26 prior to a game against the Syracuse Chiefs.

Davis had a short stint with the Indians in 1983. He appeared in 19 games with the Tribe, batting .299 (23-for-77) with 18 runs, seven homers, 19 RBIs and nine steals.

Indians lose first series of season against Louisville over holiday weekend

The Indianapolis Indians, the only Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate team to play on Easter Sunday, earned their first series loss of the season to the Louisville Bats, as they were defeated 4-2 on Saturday and 5-1 on Sunday before earning the extra-inning walk-off victory on Monday night.

It seems as though the Bats are the team that is most difficult for the Tribe to beat at home – pulling out Monday night’s victory by the skin of their teeth, after dropping games one and two of the series.

Small Slump Not Deterring Talented Tribe

The Indianapolis Indians are seeking the franchise’s first back-to-back-to-back International League (IL) West Division championships and just the second three-peat title in team history. A tall order at first glance, but with 11 wins in their first 16 games, claiming a spot in the record books may not be such a pipe dream.
