Indians earn rain-shortened 6-2 victory over Pawtucket

The rain ended the Indianapolis Indians’ 6-2 victory against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Tuesday night in the sixth inning. It also halted Gregory Polanco’s chance at hitting the home run he needed to complete the cycle.

In the end, though, the Tribe was victorious for the third straight game – a pleasant sight after losing every game for a week.

The Tribe had the exact same lineup, including the position they were playing, as their previous game when they posted 14 runs on 14 hits against the Norfolk Tides.

It’s just more proof that when the Indians’ offense clicks – they really click. In just two games they’ve scored 20 runs on 22 hits.

Chris Dickerson went 2-for-3 and extended his hitting streak to 12 games.  Polanco went 4-for-4 with two runs, two extra base hits and three RBIs.

The Tribe scored three runs in each of the first two innings. It was enough to help pitcher Brandon Cumpton earn his third win of the season. Cumpton got into some trouble third and fourth innings, but the only damage done was two runs. His final line was six innings pitched, with two runs on seven hits, four walks and one strike out.

Rain is in the forecast for Wednesday’s 1:35 p.m. start, but hopefully mother nature will let the Tribe and Red Sox play the second game of the series. Casey Sadler is the Indians’ expected starter.
