Nothing gained vs. Bucs duo, but much lost via 7-5 defeat (AFL Recap 10/29)

recap-10-29-afl2SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Bookending a Mesa Solar Sox (10-8) seven-run sixth, Pirates righty Angel Sanchez worked his fifth straight outing in which he did not allow an earned run and Indians starter Adrian Sampson made a fourth consecutive scoreless appearance in the Scottsdale Scorpions (9-11) 7-5 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Scottsdale Stadium.

Sanchez, despite being charged with two unearned runs, helped serve as stopper when the Solar Sox erupted for each of their seven runs in the sixth inning. The right-hander inherited a runner at third with one out, and after a throwing error on a play at first led to his eventual pair of unearned tallies, induced a groundout and flight to finally escape the frame.

With the appearance, Sanchez has tossed 6 2/3 innings with just four hits and no earned runs (three runs) since being activated off the Taxi Squad.

Sampson also worked around a defensive miscue to escape potential trouble in the eighth. After a throwing error by Dan Bichette Jr. (NYY) and free pass issued by Sampson put runners on first and third, the righty reliever induced a double-play roller to third to depart with no runs to his ledger.

Tyler Austin (NYY) plated three of the Scorpions five runs after going 3-for-4 with a two run double and RBI single. Brandon Nimmo (NYM) also added a score when he plated fellow Mets farmhand L.J. Mazzilli with a base knock to right in the seventh.
