Played under near perfect weather conditions on a cool September evening, Spring Arbor’s men’s soccer team hosted the Bethel College Pilots in a Crossroads League match that might have major implications in who might by vying for the League title.
The Cougars won the match in convincing style 3-1. They remain undefeated in three Crossroads matches. Spring Arbor is one of four CL teams who are 2-0-1 in the conference.
The tension between Spring Arbor and Bethel was visible from the start and progressed as the Cougars’ offense did. Godwin Addai got the scoring started for the Cougars assisted by junior Andrew Hill. Hill would play a part in all three Spring Arbor goals as he had three assists on the night.
The second period started off with yellow cards being handed out for both teams. It was followed by a Spring Arbor goal scored by Abdul Ibrahim.
David Edwardson scored the Cougars’ third and final goal of the game, just a mere 30 seconds before Bethel scored their first and only goal of the match.
As the game was winding down, both teams got more aggressive. Two more yellow cards were handed out to the Cougars, as well as one more to Bethel. Even with the three yellow cards that were issued against the Cougars, the men handled themselves well as they won their second conference game, bringing their record to 2-0-1 and 9-2-1 overall.
Milles Keller, the Cougars’ keeper had 7 saves on the night, a few of them; amazing, and only one goal against to follow up a three save, one goal against performance against Marian College on Sept. 26.
The Cougars will be on the road to face off against Taylor University on Oct. 2 and Mount Vernon Nazarene College on Oct. 6. They will return to Spring Arbor for a mid-week matchup against the University of Saint Francis on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
