SURPRISE, AZ – A solo homer from Pirates infield prospect Dan Gamache couldn’t match phenom Francisco Lindor’s (CLE) near-cycle as the Peoria Javelinas (2-1) thumped the Scottsdale Scorpions (1-2) 11-2 on Thursday night at Surprise Stadium.
Led by Lindor, who finished 4-for-6 with a double, homer, two runs scored and three RBI, the Javelinas cruised behind five doubles in the first inning and eight extra-base hits overall to Thursday’s rout. Peoria tagged the Scorpions starter Ryan O’Sullivan (PHI) for six runs in just 2 1/3 innings, producing RBI doubles from Edward Salcedo (ATL), Â Justin O’Connor (TB) and Patrick Leonard (TB) in the first inning, and a two-run, two-bagger by Jacob Wilson (STL) in the third.
Daniel Castro (ATl) welcomed Scottsdale reliever Paul Sewald (NYM) by doubling in a pair of runs with two outs in the third, before Lindor connected on a two-run shot to right that widened the advantage to 9-0.
Dante Bichette Jr. (NYY) then broke Scottsdale’s scoreless streak in the seventh, singling home a leadoff double in Greg Bird (NYY). Gamache followed one inning later by taking Ryne Harper (ATL) deep for just the sixth homer in 78 2/3 innings from the right-handed Braves prospect during 2014.
Harper’s fellow Atlanta farmyard, Aaron Northcraft, tossed three innings of one-hit ball to coast to his first AFL win.
