Kingham gives up one run as Indians beat Bulls

The Durham Bulls are atop of the International League South Division, a position the Indianapolis Indians hold in the International League West Division. On Tuesday night, the two first place teams faced off in Durham and thanks to a dominate performance by The Tribe’s Nick Kingham the Indians won 2-1.

Mel RojasKingham made his first start for the Indians against Durham at home on June 13. In that game, he blanked the Bulls over seven innings giving up five hits and striking out eight batters. In his second outing against the Bulls, he pitched 6.2 innings giving up only one unearned run on two hits. He struck out five and walked two.

The Indians split their two runs between the second and third innings. They took the lead early and thanks to Kingham’s stellar performance it was enough for the Tribe to walk away victorious. Mel Rojas drove in the Tribe’s first run while Matt Hague drove in the second run. Both hits were RBI singles to right field and shortstop, respectively.

Andy Oliver continues to impress in his new role as a reliever. He earned his eighth save of the season and struck out two in a perfect inning (no hits, no walks, no runs). He’s 8-for-8 in save opportunities with batters going 2-for-32 (.063) with one walk and 14 strikeouts in save situations.

The Tribe continues their road trip with game two against the Bulls on Wednesday night. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and Jake Brigham is the Tribe’s probable pitcher.
