Indians struggle to find offense; drop another game to Knights

Bad things are just getting worse for the Indianapolis Indians with Andrew Lambo acting as a glimmer of hope in what has been an offensively difficult series against the Charlotte Knights.

Starter Adam Wilk couldn’t find his groove and gave up eight runs (four unearned) in the first three innings, before the he settled in before handing the ball over to Josh Kinney who helped hold the Knights’ scoreless through the rest of the game. Wilk earned his ninth loss of the season in the Tribe’s 8-4 loss.

For the Knights, almost all of their offense came off the bat of Andy Wilkins, who continues to hit home runs and drive in runs. In Wednesday afternoon’s game, he added two more home runs and had seven of the team’s eight RBIs. There’s nothing short of describing his performance as offensive dominance.

The Indians scattered their four runs across four innings – the second, third, eighth and ninth. Chase d’Arnaud, Lambo, Mel Rojas and Dean Anna were the Tribe batters to score runs. Two of those runs were courtesy of Robert Andino, while Chris McGuiness and Nevin Ashley combined to drive in the other two.

In the final game of this four game series on Thursday night, the Tribe turns to Nick Kingham, who is 4-2 on the season with a 2.00 ERA. Hopefully, he will be the one to cool down this surging and strong Knights’ offense.

After that, the Tribe will be on the road and start a series with the Rochester Red Wings. In game one, set to start at 7:15 p.m. on Friday night, Casey Sadler is expected to be the Indians’ starting pitcher.

Indians’ Player of the Game:

Andrew Lambo

In a day that was as dry offensively as the weather was humid, Andrew Lambo provided an offensive spark. In his five at-bats Lambo had three hits and scored one of the Tribe’s four runs. Since his return from the disabled list, Lambo has been crushing the ball and only failed to reach base in one game (July 20 vs. Columbus Clippers).

Final Box Score:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Knights 4 0 4 0 0 0 0 0 0 8 7 1
Indians 0 1 1 0 0 0 0 1 1 4 8 1

Winning Pitcher: Chien-Ming Wang (10-5, 3.77 ERA)
Losing Pitcher: Wilk (7-9, 4.34 ERA)
