Indians make a statement with 14-3 win over Tides

The Indianapolis Indians let the International League know that they were back – and back with a vengeance – with a 14-3 win over the Norfolk Tides to split the weekend series spanning Friday to Monday.

Chase d’Arnaud was a double shy of hitting for the cycle. He went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and home run, as well as knocking in two runs. He crossed home three times – tying teammate Robert Andino – for most scoring the most runs of the game.

Matt Hague held true to his nickname as the hit collector. He was 2-for-4, but led the Tribe in RBIs with 5. Four of them came in the eighth inning when he hit a grand slam home run off Tides’ pitcher and Indiana native Brock Huntzinger.

Gregory Polanco contributed to the Tribe’s impressive offensive outing with a solo home run of his own in the seventh inning. He batted in three runs in his four at-bats of the game.

Chris Dickerson extended his hitting streak to 11 games, which is now the longest streak for the Tribe this season.

The Tides scored three runs total – one run in second, another in the seventh and their last in the ninth. Tribe pitcher Vance Worley made his Indianapolis home debut. He lasted seven innings giving up two runs on on six hits. He struck out six and walked none on his way to earning his first minor league win of the season.

Tyler Waldron and Daniel Schlereth both saw action from the Tribe’s bullpen.

The Indians will remain at home until Saturday. Victory Field will play host to the visiting Pawtucket Red Sox for a four-game series. The first game of the series kicks off on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Brandon Cumpton is the Tribe’s expected starter.
