Indianapolis Indians win 8-3 over Clippers to complete series sweep

The Indianapolis Indians are on a roll completing the four game sweep over the Columbus Clippers on Sunday with an 8-3 victory.

Adam Wilk earned the win with the help of five of his teammates who batted in at least one run. Wilk gave up two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings of work.

The five players with RBIs in the Tribe’s victory are: Gregory Polanco, Brent Morel, Chris McGuiness, Jaff Decker and Blake Davis.

Davis batted in the Tribe’s first run of the game in the second inning. He collected his second RBI on the Indians’ only run of the seventh inning.

The Tribe broke the game open in the third frame though, when Morel drove in two runs on a double to right field, putting the Tribe up 3-0. Morel would score on a double by McGuiness and McGuiness came home on a single by Decker.

Polanco went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

The Clippers scored a single run in the fourth, sixth and ninth frames, but were unable to keep up the Tribe’s offensive run.

Andy Oliver and Josh Kinney made appearances in relief. Oliver pitched 2.1 scoreless innings. Kinney followed his save performance from game two of Saturday’s double-header by giving up one run in the ninth on Sunday.

This was only the Tribe’s second four-game sweep of the Clippers since they became affiliated with the International League in 1998.

The Indians will play Monday night at 6:30 p.m. in a matchup with the Toledo Mud Hens. Phil Irwin is scheduled to be on the mound.

April 10 is the Tribe’s home-opener and is just three days away.
