On the last business day of February 2014, the United States Department of Labor reported that there were 4.9 million job openings. Through the NFHS Career Center, the National Federation of State High School Associations has capitalized on the opportunity to post jobs for those looking to work in a high school athletic department.
The Career Center provides a place for high school administrators across the nation to post job openings and view candidates, and for those searching for a job to view posted jobs as well as post their resumes.
“I think that’s the power of this,” said NFHS director of sports, events and development Mark Koski. “A broader scope of candidates can apply if the search is open to the World Wide Web instead of a local ad posting.”
For job seekers, it is free to establish an account with the NFHS Career Center and post a resume. The NFHS Career Center also provides job seekers with the ability to customize their search by keyword or location as well as have job alerts that send an email when a job posting matches their requirements.
For employers who wish to post a job, packages start at $200 for a single 30-day posting and can utilize the “Featured Job” option to gain more exposure for a vacant position. After creating an account and posting a job, employers can search posted resumes and have the information of qualified candidates emailed to them.
The NFHS Career Center is part of the Sports & Athletics Career Network (SACN), which includes the NCAA, National Junior College Athletic Association and the American Football Coaches Association. The jobs that are posted in the NFHS Career Center also appear on the job boards of other SACN members and vice versa. The NFHS Career Center was launched in Spring 2013 and benefited from already having jobs listed through the SACN.
“We would like to be a one-stop shop for all high school athletic and performing arts job opportunities,” Koski said.
