SURPRISE, AZ – All nine batters hit safely during Friday’s win, Pirates farmhand Dan Gamache extended his hitting streak to 10 games on Saturday and the Scottsdale Scorpions (3-2) swept a weekend set with one-run wins over the Glendale Desert Dogs (1-3) and the Surprise Saguaros (3-2).
On Friday, the Scorpions’ lineup totaled nine hits – one from each batter – and overcame a 5-2 deficit in the bottom of the eighth to notch the victory. Aaron Judge (NYY) doubled home two singles by Scottsdale to know the score 5-5, before Greg Bird (NYY) plated the game-winner with his fifth RBI in as many AFL games.
Kyle Haynes (NYY) worked a 1-2-3 ninth to preserve the eventual 6-5 triumph.
The Scorpions and Saguaros swapped runs throughout Saturday night, drawing even on the scoreboard in the second, fifth and seventh frames. With the contest tied 5-5 in the 10th, Matt Reynolds (NYM) hit a two-run homer to give the Scorpions a lead they would not relinquish.
Indians starter Adrian Sampson struck out one while allowing two hits and an earned run over his inning of work.
Saturday’s victory also featured a 1-for-4 effort from Gamache, who singled during his final at-bat to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, dating back to August 26. Gamache is 3-for-10 in AFL action and 13-for-39 (.333) during his 10-game streak.
