SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – International journalists Christine and Adam Jeske visited Spring Arbor University to not only promote Christine’s novel Into the Mud, but to teach students about interviews and copy editing.
Christine and Adam’s journey started at the University of Wisconsin, from there they went to Nicaragua, then onto China, then back to the states to work with refugees in Georgia and from Georgia God led them to South Africa.
Into the Mud is a book telling the stories of some of the people that Adam and Christine encountered in their time in South Africa. Each chapter tells a new story about a new topic. Chapter six is about a man named Madondo that was a farmer of men and a farmer of the fields. He returned to his village after living in the city to help them flourish agriculturally, but know according to Christine’s book, he wouldn’t dream of finding a job in Johannesburg.
The purpose of Into the Mud, is not just telling someone’s story, it is used as a form of ministry as well. Once their story is in print Christine would take it back to them and give them the chance to read their own story.
“Some of them were moved to tears,” Christine said.
The people who were a part of the book were ordinary people – not rich celebrities or famous politicians – and Into the Mud is a chance to see God working in the lives of ordinary people.
The Jeske’s will be staying the United States as they wait to see where God is calling them next.
“I’ve lived in a lot of silly places and have done a lot of goofy things,” Adam jokingly said.
Christine is looking to publish another book, while Adam works on his Masters of Theology. For more information on the Jeske’s visit the book’s website www.intothemud.com.
