“Crush for Your Crush” or Buying a Date

Puerto Rico Mission Trip Fundraising

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Students and leaders of the Puerto Rico mission trip are beginning to do fundraisers around campus in order to prepare for their spring break trip, Mar. 12 to Mar. 21.

Anna Wilkinson and Carrie Williams are leading this year’s Puerto Rico trip and 10 students have been selected as members of the team.

The team will work at Campamento del Caribe, a Christian camp, in Juana Diaz, a town close to Ponce – one of the larger cities in Puerto Rico. For more information on this camp visit www.campcaribe.net/home_english.html.

Even though the focus of the trip is missionary work, Wilkinson said, “I hope students will fall in love with a culture different from their own and be able to see where God is working in the lives of the people that are different from them. I also hope that this becomes a significant part of their college experience.”

The team hopes to raise $14,000. Four fundraisers Spring Arbor students can participate include “Crush for Your Crush,” a Halo Tournament, T-Bags, and a Date Auction.

The purpose of “Crush for Your Crush” is to send a bottle or can of Crush to someone significant in your life. It is $2 for a bottle of Crush and they will be sold outside the Dining Commons (DC) on Feb. 8, 9 and 11.

The Halo Tournament takes place Feb. 13. For more information on this fundraiser contact Travis Steinhoff at Travis.Steinhoff@arbor.edu or stop by the “Crush for Your Crush” table outside the DC.

The sales of T-Bags (T-Shirt bag) at the Benefit Coffee House on Feb. 16 will go towards the $14,000 goal. The Benefit Coffee House takes place in the DC and is a way for all students to come out and support all of the Spring Break mission trips through buying baked goods and just coming out to hear the music. T-Bags are old t-shirts transformed into bags. There will be several sewing machines set up at the concert.

“What can be better than sewing and singing?” Wilkinson said.

The last fundraiser the Date Auction on Feb. 18. Last year the team raised $1000 in one night at this event. This event gives students the ability to purchase a date with another student or check out to see what the date auction is like.
