An update on SAU Cougar athletics

Women’s Volleyball

The women’s volleyball team defeated Bethel College in their last home game of the year on Oct. 22. They have three conference games left and a tournament before they head to the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament, which begins on Nov. 8. 

Men’s Soccer

The men’s soccer team is headed to the playoffs. They defeated Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) in the last game of the season to secure not only a playoff birth but also home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs. The Cougars will be facing IWU on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 P.M.

Women’s Soccer

The women’s soccer team defeated the University of Saint Francis on Oct. 25 after almost an hour-and-a-half rain delay. They finished out the season with a 15-2-1 record and are the Mid-Central College Conference champions. The Lady Cougars will meet up with the University of Saint Francis again on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the Spring Arbor University soccer complex.

Men’s Tennis

Not only did the men’s tennis team win the Mid-Central College Conference (MCC) outright with an 8-0 record at the end of the season, but they also won the MCC tournament. They ended the season with a perfect 11-0. Coach Terry Darling was named MCC Coach of the Year and juniors Thomas Calderone, David Darling and Aaron Mayes were named members of the MCC All-Conference Team. 

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis team defeated Grace College in the first round of the Mid-Central College Conference (MCC) Tournament. After advancing to the second round, they were matched up with Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU), who won the match and eliminated the Cougars. The Lady Cougars ended the season with a 5-6 record and a 4-4 record in the MCC. 

Women’s Cross Country

The women’s cross country team finished eighth out of 33 teams at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Great Lakes Invitational. Carissa Hudson finished sixth in a field of over 330 runners, finishing the race with a lifetime best time of 18:12:44. The Lady Cougars will be headed to the Mid-Central College Conference (MCC) Championships on Nov. 5 at Goshen College.

Men’s Cross Country

The men’s cross country team finished tenth at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Great Lakes Invitational. The first Cougar to finish the race was junior Kyle Anderson who finished eleventh with a time of 25:24. The team will be going to Goshen College for the Mid-Central College Conference (MCC) Championships on Nov. 5.

Men’s Golf

The men’s golf team headed to Panama City, FL for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament. They finished seventeenth, an improvement on their eighteenth place finish from last season. The fall season is officially over, but the golf team will be back in March for the spring season.

Women’s Golf

This is the first year that Spring Arbor has had a women’s golf team. They last competed in the Alma Invitational. The team has only four members, so those interested in playing women’s golf can contact coach Rob Winkler at (517) 750-6788 ext. 1788.
