With an early start time of 11 a.m. on Saturday, the Lady Cougars faced off against the Taylor University Trojans in another conference match.
The ladies lost in three straight sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-17), but according to head coach Carol Gates, “played with excellent focus and consistency, leading Taylor in the first set.”
The Cougars’ offense was lead by senior Ashely Morris, with 12 kills. She also contributed defensively with eight digs. Junior Alyssa Frees had seven kills and seven digs over the course of the match and sophomore Katie Johnson added 7 kills.
Gates said, “Our resilience defensively allowed Tenille [Marowelli] to run a tempo offense that suited our attack and gave good one block kills.” And this style of offense gave Marowelli an opportunity to rack up 35 assists.
The Lady Cougars “found a new level today, playing a relaxed and intentional game.” They will play against Goshen College back at Spring Arbor at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12.
