Volleyball fights and narrowly miss victory

The women’s volleyball team was close to their first conference victory tonight against Goshen College in front of an excited home crowd as they played with good focus and were unified throughout the entire match.

After losing the first set, 25-20, the Lady Cougars exploded on the court with the help of senior Ashley Morris who had a career high 23 kills, 24 digs and six blocks and won the second set 25-21. The momentum followed the Cougars into the third set, in which they won 25-23. The Cougars dropped the last two sets, 25-21 and 15-10 respectively, but put up a fight in the process.

Libero Lyndsay Murray had 28 digs, while setter Tenille Marowelli had an impressive 24 assists over the course of the match.

“We were right in the fight the entire match. This team is progressing each outing and the outcomes will turn our way as they continue to gain experience,” said head coach Carol Gates.

The Lady Cougars have two away games on Sept. 14 and 19 before returning to Spring Arbor to face-off against Grace College at 7 p.m. on Sept. 21.
