There is a new emerging sport on the horizon in Minnesota.
For the 2014 season, 6,100 student-athletes representing 185 schools will be participating in the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League (MSHSCTL) in competitive trapshooting.
Trapshooting has grown immensely in Minnesota – in 2008 there were only 30 participants from three schools.
Students are participating from across the state, and in order to avoid high travel costs the MSHSCTL created a “virtual” competition. Practices and competitions take place at 106 ranges throughout Minnesota. Conferences are organized by the size of the team, not the geographical location.
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) partners with MSHSCTL for the state tournament held in the spring. The highest qualifying individual and team achievers compete with the possibility of being named a MSHSL state champion.
