RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers dropped their fifth straight game on Tuesday night, falling to the Athletics 5-3 at Comerica Park. Nick Castellanos had a pair of hits and drove in two runs, while Yoenis Cespedes and James McCann each added two hits in the loss. Alfredo Simon started for Detroit and took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits with five walks and six strikeouts in 6.1 innings. The Tigers and Athletics play game two of their three-game series tonight. Following the series vs. Oakland, the Tigers hit the road for a three-game road trip vs. the White Sox.

CABRERA, WILSON EARN MAY HONORS: Miguel Cabrera and Alex Wilson have been selected as the Tigers Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively, for May. Cabrera finished May with a .300 (30×100) batting average with 16 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, six home runs and 17 RBI. Wilson posted a 1-1 record with a 0.86 ERA (21.0IP/2ER) in May. Wilson allowed just eight hits with three walks and 13 strikeouts.

CABRERA EXTENDS ON BASE STREAK TO 21 GAMES: Miguel Cabrera went 1×4 with a run scored in last night’s game to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 21 straight games. During the 21-game streak, Cabrera is hitting .329 (25×76) with 13 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, five home runs and 13 RBI. Cabrera’s streak is the longest active streak in the majors. Cabrera leads the AL with a .438 on-base percentage.

CESPEDES PILING UP THE MULTI-HIT GAMES: Yoenis Cespedes went 2×4 with a run scored in last night’s game. The performance marked Cespedes’ 20th multi-hit game this season, which ranks tied for fourth in the American League.

MCCANN AMONG THE AL ROOKIE LEADERS: James McCann had a pair of hits, including a double, in last night’s game. McCann enters tonight’s contest among the American League rookie leaders in several categories. McCann ranks third among AL rookies with a .288 batting average (minimum 75 at bats) and nine multi-hit games, while he is fourth with 32 hits and seven doubles and fifth with 12 RBI.

ALL-STAR VOTING STILL OPEN: Voting has started for Major League Baseball’s 86th All- Star Game held at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. MLB’s All-Star Balloting Program is the largest of its kind in professional sports and this year will be conducted exclusively online. Last year, Miguel Cabrera was elected as the American League’s starting first baseman, marking the second time he has been selected to start an All-Star Game.
