RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers opened their four-game series vs. Houston with a 6-5 win in 11 innings on Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park. James McCann broke a 5-5 tie with a walkoff solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning, the first walkoff homer of his career. McCann finished the game 2×5 with two runs scored. Yoenis Cespedes reached base in all five plate appearances, going 3×3 with two runs scored, a double and two walks. Nick Castellanos hit his fourth home run of the season and drove in two in the win. Alex Wilson picked up his first win of the season in relief, throwing 2.0 shutout innings with two hits allowed and two strikeouts. The Tigers and Astros play game two of their four-game weekend series tonight. Following this weekend’s series, the Tigers travel to the West Coast for a seven-game road trip, which includes three games at Oakland and four games at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

MCCANN WINS IT WITH WALKOFF HOMER: James McCann hit the first walkoff home run of his major league career on Thursday, hitting a solo home run off of Tony Sipp in the 11th inning. The homer for McCann was the second of his big league career with his other coming as an inside-the-park home run on April 29 at Minnesota. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, McCann is the first major league player whose first two career home runs included both a walkoff and an inside-the-park homer since Tim Raines, who hit a walkoff homer on May 1 vs. the Dodgers and an inside-the-park homer on May 7 vs. the Padres.

MIGGY RECORDS 1,400TH RBI: Miguel Cabrera reached the 1,400 RBI mark in yesterday’s game with his RBI single in the fifth inning. Cabrera became the second Venezuelan-born player, joining Andres Galarraga (1,425), and the 76th player in major league history to drive in 1,400 runs. At 32 years, 33 days, Cabrera is the fifth-youngest player in MLB history to reach 1,400 RBI, trailing only Jimmie Foxx (30 years, 225 days), Lou Gehrig (31 years, 44 days), Mel Ott (31 years, 71 days) and Alex Rodriguez (31 years, 315 days).

CESPEDES FOR THE REST OF US: Yoenis Cespedes reached base safely in all five plate appearances on Thursday, going 3×3 with two runs scored, a double and two walks. Dating back to Wednesday’s game, Cespedes has reached base safely in nine straight plate appearances. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Cespedes’ streak is tied for the second-longest in the majors this season, trailing only Adrian Gonzalez, who reached base safely in 10 straight plate appearances. The last Detroit player to reach base safely in nine straight plate appearances was Magglio Ordonez, who reached safely in nine straight plate appearances from April 23-25, 2007.

PRICE PILING UP THE PUNCHOUTS: David Price recorded his first double-digit strikeout game of the season on Thursday, striking out 12 in 6.2 innings of work. The performance marked the 26th game of 10-or-more strikeouts for Price in his career and his first since September 6, 2014 vs. San Francisco. Since the start of the 2011 season, Price has 23 games with 10-or-more strikeouts, which is the third-most in the American League.

Last year, Miguel Cabrera was elected as the American League’s starting first baseman, marking the second time he has been selected to start an All- Star Game.

45TH ANNUAL POLISH-AMERICAN NIGHT 

The Tigers longest running cultural celebration returns to Comerica Park for the 45th year. The concourse will be filled with Polish music as The Big Daddy Orchestra, The Kielbasa Kings, The Steve Drzewicki Band and the Natural Tones will perform for fans entering the game. Plus, hundreds of children in costume will perform a traditional Polish dance on the field prior to the game. And don’t miss Detroit’s favorite mascot, PAWS as he dresses up in his traditional Polish attire for this special cultural celebration.
