RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers began their 10-game homestand with an 8-7 loss to the White Sox in 10 innings on Thursday afternoon at Comerica Park. Ian Kinsler and J.D. Martinez each hit two-run home runs, while Jose Iglesias and Victor Martinez each had three hits in the loss. Nick Castellanos and Rajai Davis each contributed two hits. Joba Chamberlain took the loss out of the bullpen, allowing three runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout in 1.0 inning. The Tigers and White Sox play game two of their four-game series tonight. Following the series vs. Chicago, the 10-game homestand continues with three games against the Pittsburgh Pirates and three games against the Toronto Blue Jays.
J.D. POWER: J.D. Martinez hit his 18th home run of the season in yesterday’s loss vs. Chicago, hitting a two-run home run off of Carlos Rodon in the fifth inning. Dating back to June 7, Martinez has hit nine home runs in his last 15 games and has driven in 22 runs during that stretch. Martinez’s 22 RBI during that time period is the most in the majors, while his nine home runs are tied with Albert Pujols and Giancarlo Stanton for the major league lead.
J.D. MARTINEZ RIDING 18 GAME ON BASE STREAK: J.D. Martinez enters today’s game having reached base safely in 18 consecutive games. The 18-game streak is the longest in Martinez’s career and ranks as tied for the second-longest active on base streak in the American League.
STREAKING: Yoenis Cespedes enters tonight’s game on a seven-game hitting streak, while Rajai Davis has hit safely in six straight games. Over his last seven games, Cespedes is batting .333 (9×27) with seven runs scored, three doubles, one home run and six RBI. Davis is batting .350 (7×20) with four runs scored and two doubles during his six-game streak.
THREE TIGERS ON TARGET VS. QUINTANA: Yoenis Cespedes, Victor Martinez and Rajai Davis have each posted impressive numbers against tonight’s White Sox starter, Jose Quintana. Cespedes is batting .667 (8×12) with two doubles, four home runs and nine RBI vs. Quintana, while Martinez is hitting .500 (12×24) with two doubles and three RBI. Davis is batting .343 (12×35) with three doubles, one triple, one home run and two RBI against Quintana.
VMART ON THE MARK VS. CHICAGO: Victor Martinez is hitting .333 (205×616) with 98 runs scored, 36 doubles, 26 home runs and 105 RBI in 170 career games vs. the White Sox. He ranks second among active American League players with 205 hits vs. Chicago, while he is third with 105 RBI and a .405 on-base percentage and fourth with a .333 batting average. Martinez has at least one base hit in 28 of his last 35 games vs. the White Sox.

TONIGHT’S TIDBITS
- CMU Night: The Detroit Tigers along with FOX Sports Detroit are hosting the first installment of their University Days series at Comerica Park. CMU’s a Capella group On the Rox will be performing on the concourse prior to the start of the game, as well as singing the national anthem. CMU cheerleaders and dance team will provide on-field pregame enter-tainment along with a performance from the CMU dance team before the game. The cheerleaders and dance team members will accompany the DTE Engery Squad girls during the seventh inning stretch.
- The national anthem will be performed by a Capella group, On the Rox, from Central Michigan University.
- The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown out by William Kanine, President of CMU’s Board of Trustees.
- Friday Night Fireworks, presented by Pepsi, will follow the game (weather permitting).
