RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers picked up a series win over the White Sox with a 6-4 victory on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field. Yoenis Cespedes was 3×4 with a run scored, a home run and two RBI, while Tyler Collins was 3×3 with two runs scored, a triple and a RBI. J.D. Martinez hit a go-ahead, two-run home run and drove in three runs in the victory. Alfredo Simon picked up his sixth win of the season, allowing four runs, only one earned, on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Joakim Soria worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 16th save. The Tigers open a seven-game homestand tonight as they begin a two-game series vs. the Cubs. Following the series vs. Chicago, the homestand continues with three games vs. Cleveland and two games vs. Cincinnati.
CABRERA EXTENDS ON BASE STREAK TO 26 GAMES: Miguel Cabrera drew a walk in Sunday’s game to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 26 straight games. During the 26- game streak, Cabrera is hitting .305 (29×95) with 15 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, six home runs and 17 RBI. Cabrera’s streak is the longest active streak in the majors and is his longest since he reached base safely in 32 straight games from July 20- August 29, 2013.
CESPEDES, KINSLER PILING UP THE MULTI-HIT GAMES: Yoenis Cespedes and Ian Kinsler each recorded multi-hit games on Sunday at Chicago. Cespedes has notched at least two hits in each of his last three games and is tied for second in the American League with 23 multi-hit games. Kinsler has recorded 21 multi-hit games this season and is tied for seventh in the AL.
MIGGY ON THE MARK VS. LESTER: Miguel Cabrera has posted impressive numbers in his career against tonight’s Cubs starter, Jon Lester. Cabrera is hitting .522 (12×23) with four doubles, one home run and three RBI in his career vs. Lester. Cabrera leads all active players with a .522 batting average and a .633 on-base percentage vs. Lester, while he ranks second with a .826 slugging percentage.
INTERLEAGUE HAPPENINGS: The Tigers are 5-4 in Interleague play this season after going 1-2 vs. Milwaukee, 2-1 vs. Pittsburgh and 2-1 vs. St. Louis. Since Interleague Play began in 1997, the Tigers have compiled a 181-151 record.
