RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Indians on Saturday afternoon at Comerica Park. Rajai Davis was the catalyst for the Detroit offense, going 2×4 with three runs scored and three stolen bases. Victor Martinez drove in three runs and finished 2×4 while Ian Kinsler added two hits, including a double, scored a run and drove in a run. Alfredo Simon started for Detroit and picked up his fourth win of the season, allowing one run on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Joakim Soria threw a perfect ninth inning to earn his sixth save. The Tigers conclude their 10-game homestand this afternoon as they play the series finale vs. Cleveland. Following today’s game, the Tigers begin a 10-game road trip that will take them to Minnesota for three games (April 27-29), Kansas City for four games (April 30-May 3) and Chicago for three games (May 5-7).
SIMON IMPROVES TO 4-0: Alfredo Simon became the first American League pitcher to reach four wins in 2015 as he picked up the win in Saturday’s game. Simon tossed 6.2 innings and gave up one run on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Dating back to the 2014 season, Simon has won six consecutive decisions, which matches his career long winning streak. Simon also became the first pitcher to win his first four starts in a Tigers uniform since Kip Young won his first four in 1978.
STREAKING: Rajai Davis extended his hitting streak to eight games with a pair of hits in yesterday’s win. During the eight-game hitting streak, Davis is hitting .345 (10×29) with six runs scored, one double, one home run and four RBI. Davis’ eight-game hitting streak ranks as the third-longest active hitting streak in the American League.
THE NEED FOR SPEED: The Tigers had five stolen bases in Saturday’s game with Rajai Davis swiping three bases and Jose Iglesias and Ian Kinsler each stealing one base. The five steals were the most in a single game by Detroit since September 5, 2007 vs. the Chicago White Sox. The Tigers now have 19 stolen bases this season, which leads the American League. Davis leads the AL with six stolen bases, while Iglesias is tied for second with five steals.
TAKE YOUR BASE: Miguel Cabrera drew four walks, including three intentional passes, in yesterday’s win. The four walks for Cabrera established a career high and he became the first Tigers player to walk four times in a game since Matt Tuiasosopo on May 19, 2013 at Texas. Cabrera drew three intentional walks in a game for the second time in his career with the other coming on August 15, 2010 at Chicago White Sox.
