RECENT RESULTS: The Tigers extended their winning streak to three games as they defeated the White Sox 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Comerica Park. With the game tied at one in the bottom of the ninth, Nick Castellanos led off the inning with a double to right and pinch runner Andrew Romine advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Avila. Jose Iglesias then grounded a single up the middle to score Romine with the winning run. Castellanos and Iglesias each finished the win with two hits, while Yoenis Cespedes homered in the victory. David Price started for the Tigers and received a no decision after allowing only one run on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Joakim Soria picked up his first win of the season with a scoreless ninth inning. The Tigers and White Sox continue their three-game series this afternoon with game two. Following the series vs. Chicago, the Tigers remain at home, hosting the Yankees for four games and the Indians for three games.

FAST START: The Tigers improved to 9-1 on the season with a 2-1 win vs. Chicago on Friday afternoon. The 9-1 start is tied with the 1984, 1968 and 1911 teams for the best 10-game start in franchise history. With a win today, the 2015 Tigers would equal the 1984 and 1911 teams for the best 11-game start in club history at 10-1.

GETTING’ IGGY WITH IT: Jose Iglesias recorded the first walkoff hit of his big league career on Friday with a RBI single in the ninth inning. In 10 games this season, Iglesias has five multi-hit games and is batting .484 (15×31) with five runs scored, three doubles, two RBI and four stolen bases. Iglesias currently leads the American League with a .484 batting average, while he is tied for first with four stolen bases, second with a .529 on-base percentage and tied for sixth with 15 hits.

QUALITY WORK FROM PRICE: David Price continued his impressive start to the season on Friday as he allowed only one run on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Price has allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his first three starts this season. In 22.1 innings, Price has allowed four runs, only one earned, on 13 hits with five walks and 20 strikeouts.

ELIAS SAYS: During their current three-game winning streak, the Tigers have scored less than two runs in each win, defeating the Pirates 2-0 and 1-0 on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively and downing the White Sox 2-1 yesterday. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only other team in the last four seasons to win three consecutive games while scoring fewer than three runs in each contest is the Red Sox, who won three straight games in that fashion in June 2014. The only other winning streak of that kind for the Tigers occurred over 100 years ago, when Ty Cobb and company registered consecutive wins by scored of 1-0, 2-0 and 1-0 in July 1910, thanks to complete game shutouts by pitchers Wild Bill Donovan, George Mullin and Ed Summers.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIGGY: Miguel Cabrera celebrates his 32nd birthday today. After going hitless on his first birthday in the major leagues in 2004, he has hit safely on nine of his last 10 birthdays and is batting .386 (17×44) with five doubles, a home run, seven RBI and five walks on his birthday during his career.

SORIA SLAMS THE DOOR: Joakim Soria worked a perfect ninth inning yesterday to earn his first win of the season. Over his last five outings, Soria has compiled a 1-0 record with three saves, a 1.80 ERA (5.0IP/1ER) and three strikeouts. Soria is currently tied for the American League lead with four saves.
