STRIKE THREE. A Tiger Game?

Hey Cougs! I know, I know, why is a Cougar talking about tigers? Well, it’s the Detroit Tigers I want to talk about.

If you’re from Michigan and you like baseball, the Tigers are your team. I know someone who is a huge fan, has grown up around baseball and got the chance to go to a game before school starts. She was at Comerica Park on Tuesday, August 24, when the Kansas City Royals were in town. This game ended up being a very important game to any Tiger fan. You may have heard why it was an important game, you may not have, but here’s the story.

Brandon Inge has been a Detroit Tiger since 2001. He started playing for the team as their catcher. I know that might be a crazy thought for some of you because he’s Detroit’s awesome third baseman now, but yes he was a catcher. He was there when they had 119 losses in 2003 and went to the World Series only three years later. Well, on Tuesday he hit his 1,000 career hit. He received a standing ovation, because it is likely that Brandon Inge will be the last career Tiger.

There’s nothing like experiencing a career milestone for a fan favorite. Even if you aren’t a fan of Brandon Inge or the Detroit Tigers, you can still appreciate that he has done something that not very many people on the team has done. The last Tiger to accomplish this feat was Bobby Higginson who played with the team from 1995 to 2005.

I hope all you Cougars out there will come and show the same support for your own sports teams as those Tiger fans did for Brandon Inge.

Catch ya later, Cougs!
