Howdy Cougars! This past weekend, Spring Arbor gave us a taste of our childhood by showing the last in a truly great line-up of animated Disney flicks: Toy Story 3.
Disney, with the help of Pixar, has created many movies over the years that are a part of every college student’s childhood. Some include, but are not limited to, Aladdin, The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Cinderella and Toy Story.
I bet most of you remember watching Andy bond with his two favorites toys, Woody and Buzz Lightyear, in Toy Story and Toy Story 2. After Toy Story 2 came out, it felt as though the series was left unfinished and we pondered when the third Toy Story would be created. Well, now all we are waiting for is getting enough money to buy the third one (and maybe the first one since we have to dig out those VHS players to watch it) and finding enough time to have a Toy Story marathon.
Some people think that college students don’t enjoy those “animated, children’s movies,” but in reality we look forward to them. We are all little kids at heart. They are milestone markers for us. Disney created all of the Disney princesses that every little girl fell in love with and which caused every girl to want to meet their own Prince Charming. We cried when Scar killed Mufasa in the Lion King. Occassionally, as you walk around campus, you can find people listening to songs like “Hakuna Mutata” and “A Whole New World” just because they can.
Toy Story 3 brought the campus of Spring Arbor together for just one night. Everyone laughed, a few people cried, but most people reminisced about watching the first one way back in the day.
If you haven’t seen it, I recommend that you go out and watch it. If you have the urge to watch some other Disney movie – maybe you want to sing “Kiss the Girl” while watching the Little Mermaid (and guys its okay to know the words, just blame it on your sister) – I’d say find someone who has the one you’re looking for, borrow it and spend some time remembering what being a kid was like.
Catch ya later, Cougs!
