Martin Dettelbach and his son Michael participated in the Detroit Tigers Fantasy Batting Practice on June 7 as part of the package Martin was awarded as a LUNGevity Auction winner. They were given the opportunity to stand in the cage and take batting practice with former Tigers pitcher and 1984 World Series Champion Dave Rozema pitching to them. The entire experience lasted three and a half hours. Besides having a former Tigers player pitch to them, the pair was able to shag fly balls in the outfield and spend time with the other participating members in the Tigers dugout.
Martin and his wife, along with two of their children, Michael and Myra visited Comerica Park from August 25 to August 26 when the Detroit Tigers hosted the Los Angeles Angels. On Tuesday night, Marty and Michael obtained autographs from several Detroit Tigers players, including Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez. They were also able to obtain autographs from some of the opposing team members, such as 2014 American League MVP Mike Trout and Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia.
On Wednesday night, the foursome attended batting practice for the second time and obtained the autographs of Miguel Cabrera, James McCann and Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, as well as others. Martin was also one of four people to throw out a ceremonial first pitch to Tigers reliever Guido Knudson.
