Lady Cougars searching for consistency

After a disappointing loss against Indiana Wesleyan University on the road, the Lady Cougars were ready to prove themselves as they welcomed Grace College to their home court.

Head coach Carol Gates said, “This young team continues to make strides in the right direction, needing to improve their ability to play consistently and finish.”

A team that is dominated by underclassmen and going through a rebuilding phase, with only two seniors, Ashley Morris and Katie Peterson, lost in three sets to the Lancers. The final scores were 25-17, 25-18 and 25-17.

Morris, who had 12 kills on the night, led the Cougars’ offense like she has in most matches this season. Tenille Marowelli and Alyssa Frees both contributed to the offense with five kills apiece.

To halt the offense of the Pilots and to make each set close, Lyndsay Murray had nine digs while Morris added 12.

The team will be away on Sept. 22, visiting Bethel College to face off against a team with only one victory at home, as they still look for their first conference victory. The Lady Cougars will be back home on Oct. 3 for a non-conference game against Lourdes College.
