Kansas player sets free throw record

Each time she stepped to the foul line over a 21-game stretch, Lakin Preisner of Allen (Kansas) Northern Heights High School never missed a free throw. When her streak of 120 consecutive made free throws ended, she had earned a national record.

Preisner’s streak ended when she missed a free throw in Northern Heights’ 52-35 victory over Herington (Kansas) High School. It was the first free throw she’s missed since the fourth game of the 2012-13 season.

The new record is 50 more than the previous record and 85 more than the previous Kansas state record of 35 set by Kristin Rethman in 1998.

Shanna Zolman, from Syracuse (Indiana) Wawasee High School, was the previous national record holder with 70 consecutive free throws made from December 2001 through February 2002. Zolman is in the consecutive free throw record two other times, with streaks of 63 and 54.
