The Indianapolis Indians are back in their winning ways. Even if they lose a couple games in a row, they answer with a short-winning streak.
After dropping the first game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, impressive pitching performances of Vance Worley and Jay Jackson brought the Tribe victories in games two and three before the home run helped lift the Tribe 4-3 in the series finale.
The Tribe’s first two runs were courtesy of a Tony Sanchez home run in the second inning. His last two home runs came in his impressive 3-f0r-6, 5 RBI outing against the Syracuse Chiefs on June 4. Lehigh Valley responded quickly getting two runs off Tribe starter Adam Wilk in the bottom of the inning.
Both teams scored single runs in the fifth inning. Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly while the IronPigs scored on a home run by Rusty Ryal. The difference to put the Tribe ahead at the end of the game when it matters most was a home run by Chris Dickerson in the third inning.
Earlier in the week, Dickerson was activated from a short stint on the disabled list, but picked up right where he left off. All season long, he’s found ways to get on base and since his return on June 6, there was only one game in which he didn’t reach base.
After struggling in his last three starts, in which he gave up 12 runs (10 earned) on 24 hits in 17.1 innings pitched, Wilk earned his fifth quality and fourth win of the season. Wilk pitched seven innings, striking out six and giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits.
With only a one-run lead, Vin Mazzaro earned his third save of the season following a scoreless and hitless eighth inning from Josh Wall.
The Indians return home for an eight-game home stand split between two four-game series starting with the Durham Bulls. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with Tyler Waldron on the mound.
