The Indianapolis Indians split the home series against the Louisville Bats with a victory on Wednesday afternoon. They also won the home and away series four games to two.
Adrian Sampson made his home debut for the Indians and earned his first Triple-A win as the Tribe scored in every inning, but the sixth, seventh and eighth. His final line included two earned runs and six hits in seven innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.
In the first inning the Indians scored on a home run by Pittsburgh Pirates’ rehabbing infielder Clint Barmes. It was followed by a double by Jose Tabata who then stole third base. Chris McGuiness reached base on a walk. Tommy Field, then, drove the two runs in on a single to put the Tribe ahead 3-0.
Barmes had an RBI sacrifice fly in the second after Chase d’Arnaud tripled to start the second inning. Field scored on an RBI double by Robert Andino in the third. McGuiness hit an RBI double in the fourth to drive in Tabata. The Tribe’s last run occurred in the fifth inning when the Bats’ starting pitcher Scott Diamond threw a wild pitch.
The Bats’ first two runs came in the seventh inning off the bat of Felix Perez who hit a two-run home run into right field. Their final run, and the final run of the game, happened in the top of the ninth with Josh Wall on the mound.
The Indians host the Toledo Mud Hens for two games on Thursday and Friday night before a short three-game away series against the Columbus Clippers.
Indians’ Player of the Game:
Adrian Sampson
The young pitcher showed his stuff as he held the Bats to only two runs in his first appearance at Victory Field. He took the loss in his first start against the Toledo Mud Hens while the Indians were on their last road trip. But on Wednesday afternoon, he showed that this end of the year look in Triple-A is worthwhile.
