Indians split middle two games against Syracuse

After the Indianapolis Indians dropped the first game of their road trip against the Syracuse Chiefs on Tuesday night, the Tribe split the middle games winning 11-2 on Wednesday before losing 3-7 on Thursday.

Wednesday night was a career night for Tribe catcher Tony Sanchez. He’s been back and forth between Indy and Pittsburgh this season, but a two home run, career high five RBI night is just another way he’s proved his worth to the Pittsburgh Pirates’ organization.

Sanchez finished the night hitting 3-for-6, but he wasn’t the only one – Gregory Polanco and Matt Hague did it, too. Hague had three RBIs and Polanco scored three runs.

Tribe hitters had 44 at-bats and combined for 10 RBIs on 16 hits.

On the mound Jay Jackson earned his third win of the season. He gave up two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and no walks. He was relieved by Josh Kinney and Kenn Kasparek, who combined for three scoreless innings of work.

It was a different ball game on Thursday night and although the Tribe outhit the Chiefs 8-7, they were outscored by Syracuse.

The Chiefs’ pitching staff go to the Tribe offense allowing for only three runs on eight hits with 12 strikeouts.

Tribe starter Adam Wilk earned a no-decision after five innings of work in which he gave up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts. Daniel Schlereth earned the loss while follow relievers Cody Eppley and Wirfin Obispo combined for 2.2 innings of two-hit work.

Hague led the Tribe offense with a home run and two RBIs. Polanco went 2-for-5 at the plate with a stolen base. Jaff Decker went 2-for-3 with his 14th double of the season.

Tyler Waldron will pitch the last game against the Chiefs for the season, starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.
