The Indianapolis Indians dropped the final game of the four-game road series against the Toledo Mud Hens on Friday night, by a score of 6-7 in the 11th inning.
Tribe starter Jake Brigham struggled in the first inning – giving up four runs – but was able to keep the Mud Hens mostly silent through the rest of his outing. He gave up one more run in the fifth inning, but overall had a decent outing. He struck out four and walked two in six innings pitched.
Thanks to the Indians’ offense, Brigham earned the no-decision. Matt Hague had the most of the Tribe’s RBIs due to a three-run homer in the fourth inning. Andrew Lambo and Tony Sanchez came around to score after both being walked by Mud Hens starter Duane Below.
Two more runs scored – on doubles by Lambo and Gregory Polanco – in the top of the fifth and the Tribe led the game for the first time, up 5-4. It didn’t last long – the Mud Hens tied it up in the bottom of the inning and regained the lead in the seventh.
Nevin Ashley kept the Tribe alive, doubling in a run in the top of the ninth to tie the game at sixes.
Josh Kinney pitched one inning in relief, while the Indians turned to Phil Irwin to finish the game. Irwin pitched three scoreless innings (eighth, ninth, 10th) before giving up a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the 11th.
The Indians are back home on Saturday night, for a Signature Saturday game against the Syracuse Chiefs. Former Cincinnati Reds player Eric Davis will be signing autographs for the first 500 fans as part of Signature Saturday. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. and the Tribe’s expected starter is Jeff Locke.
