It was a special day at Victory Field on Monday night as the Indianapolis Indians hosted the Buffalo Bisons.
The Tribe wore camouflage jerseys that were auctioned off during the game and besides being Dollar Menu Monday there was also post game fireworks. The only way the day could have been better was if the Indians had pulled out the win as they lost 6-2.
It wasn’t Adam Wilk’s best start as he struggled through 4.2 innings of work. He gave four runs on 10 hits, two of which were home runs as well as walking two and striking out three. The Bisons would have scored earlier – they scored two runs in the fourth and tacked on two more in the fifth – if it hadn’t been for the arm of right fielder Jaff Decker who threw out two players at home.
This was the organization’s Twitter reaction to the two outfield assists:
DON’T. RUN. on DECKER! Buffalo foolishly tries to race home only to find out the hard way @JaffDecker22 has a CANNON. That’s 3 out at plate!

Thought we warned you…DON’T RUN on DECKER! For 2nd time tonight @JaffDecker22 HOSES runner at the plate! Not even close, #SITDOWN — Indianapolis Indians (@indyindians) May 26, 2014
Tyler Waldron and Cody Eppley both gave up one run in their relief appearances to have the Bisons take a 6-2 lead. Daniel Schlereth and Josh Kinney also appeared out of the bullpen. The Tribe’s offense was quiet until the sixth inning when they scored their only runs of the night.
Tony Sanchez singled in a run and Brent Morel also singled in a run. Chris Dickerson and Matt Hague were the two Tribe runners to cross the plate.
Gregory Polanco had the day off and, according to the Tribe’s broadcast, manager Dean Treanor was going to have Polanco sit next to him in the dugout for the entire game. Polanco did make an appearance in the game – pinch hitting for Adalberto Santos in the seventh inning and remaining in the game as the right fielder.
Jeff Locke is on the mound for Tuesday night’s 7:05 p.m. start. It will be a matchup of All-Star pitchers. Locke was named to the 2013 All-Star team and Bisons’ starter Ricky Romero was named to the 2011 All-Star team.
