Indians drop two more games

The Indianapolis Indians lost the series finale against the Syracuse Chiefs, 1-5, before dropping the first game of the series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, 1-3. They’ve now lost three games in a row.

Tyler Waldron made a spot start on Friday against the Chiefs. He gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits in four innings of work. Kenn Kasparek and Josh Wall combined for three scoreless innings of work. Andy Oliver was the last Tribe pitcher of the game and gave up one run in his single inning of relief.

Gregory Polanco hit a leadoff home run to start the game – it would prove to be the only Tribe run. The Indians’ offense was shutdown by the Chiefs’ trio of pitchers: Ryan Tatusko, Manny Delcarmen and Warner Madrigal.

On Saturday night, the Tribe began a four game series with the IronPigs. Recently promoted from Double-A, A.J. Morris made his Triple-A debut, but was outshines by IronPigs’ starter and former Indian Brad Lincoln. Morris pitched a quality start lasting six innings with three runs (two earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts. He was relieved by Josh Kinney and Cody Eppley to close out the game.

The Tribe’s offense was completely silent until the eighth inning when a lead off triple by Mel Rojas was followed by an RBI grounder by Blake Davis. Tension was high prior to the Indians’ scoring as second baseman Robert Andino and Indians’ manager Dean Treanor were ejected from the game during the fifth inning.

The Tribe will face off against the IronPigs for game two on Sunday afternoon starting at 1:35 p.m. with Vance Worley on the mound.
