After an exciting walk-off victory in game one of the four game series against the Toledo Mud Hens, the Indianapolis Indians have lost two straight games.
The two starters, Adam Wilk (Sunday) and Nick Kingham (Monday) had one inning in which they gave up multiple runs, but the Tribe’s offense couldn’t pull it together.
In Sunday’s 2-1 loss, the only Indian’s run was thanks to Mel Rojas, who hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. Wilk was relieved after five innings and turned the ball over to Jay Jackson. Jackson pitched four innings of relief and kept the Tribe in the game by only giving up two hits.
On Monday night, Kingham pitched six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. Chase d’Arnaud and Jose Tabata were a combined 4-for-6 (d’Arnaud was 2-for-2 with two walks, Tabata was 2-for-4), while the rest of the Indians’ offense was a combined 0-for-22 at the plate.
Catcher Tony Sanchez also reached base twice, with two walks in his four plate appearances, but the Indians were unable to score him.
It seems as though they are experiencing some of the same problems from their most recent road trip in which they only won two games. They can’t string the hits together in the same inning and players who were hot at the plate are starting to cool off.
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Gerrit Cole will make his second start of his rehab assignment on August 5 to complete the series against the Mud Hens. He made his first start for one of the Tribe’s two wins when they were on the road.
Indians’ Players of the Game:
Chase d’Arnaud & Jose Tabata
These two players were the biggest part of the Tribe’s offense. They were the only two Tribe players to have hits in Monday night’s contest. d’Arnaud went 2-for-2 with a double, triple, two walks and a stolen base. Tabata was 2-for-4.
