After an eight-game home stand the Indianapolis Indians headed on the road for an eight-game road trip. On Tuesday night, the Indians played the first of four games against the Syracuse Chiefs and lost by a score of 5-1.
Jake Brigham earned his fourth loss of the season, but it came on the back of his eighth quality start of the season. His outing lasted six innings. He gave up three runs on five hits. He was also 1-for-2 at the plate.
In his minor league debut, Wirfin Obispo pitched one inning and gave up a solo home run as his only hit and struck out two. Josh Wall pitched the eighth inning and gave up one run on one hit.
The Tribe’s offense was silent for most of the night, being shut out by Taylor Hill, Xavier Cedeno, and Warner Madrigal, with the only exception occurring in the fifth inning. Mel Rojas scored the Indians’ only run after he singled to start the inning.
The night before, a two hour and 25 minute delay due to rain caused the game to start at 9:30 p.m. instead of the scheduled 7:05 p.m. The series finale against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders included a start from Vance Worley and what could have been Gregory Polanco’s last start at Victory Field.
Worley got into trouble early, on Monday night, giving up four runs in the second inning. The Tribe offense struggled to keep it close as they lost 7-3. He lasted five runs, giving up 10 hits and striking out nine. Tyler Waldron, Daniel Schlereth and Cody Eppley were the Tribe’s three relievers – combining for one run on two hits in four innings with three strikeouts.
Matt Hague led the second inning off with his eighth home run of the season to put the Tribe on the board. They tacked on another run in the third when Blake Davis came around to score. A balk during a Jaff Decker at-bat scored the Tribe’s last run in the sixth. Polanco started the inning off with a double and was advanced to third by Robert Andino before scoring.
The Tribe has their second game against the Chiefs on Wednesday night. Jay Jackson is the expected starter with a start time of 7:00 p.m.
