The Indianapolis Indians celebrated more than just Mother’s Day on Sunday afternoon as they snapped their seven game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Norfolk Tides.
The celebration of mothers started early as the Indians’ grounds crew tweeted the following photo during their game time preparations:

Jeff Locke earned his first win of the season with a quality start. He pitched seven innings and gave up two runs – one in the second and the other in the sixth – on six hits. He struck out five and walked two. Phil Irwin beat out the rain storm that was about to hit the city and earned his first save of the 2014 season. He struck out one and gave up one hit in his two inning appearance.
The Tribe scored runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Gregory Polanco batted in the first run of the fourth. Chris McGuiness singled in the next run of the inning and scored on a double by Matt Hague. Following Chris Dickerson’s first triple of the season, which brought his hitting streak to 10 games (and matches Polanco’s hitting streak from early April), the Indians scored another run when Michael Martinez brought him home. The last run scored by the Indians was on a Dickerson sacrifice fly.
Hague led the Indians offense – reaching base three times, twice on hits and the other a walk. Martinez contributed with two hits.
The Indians host the Tides for the final game of the series. Brandon Cumpton is the probable starter. Game time is 11:05 p.m. for one of the Indians’ Baseball in Education promotion days. The Pawtucket Red Sox will be in Indy on Tuesday for a four-game series to close out the Indians’ eight game home stand.
