Female kicker helps school win its first football game in 57 years

In 1956, Elvis Presley’s first hit song “Heartbreak Hotel” was released, Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected as President of the United States and the first black and white portable TV became available on the commercial market.

It’s also the last time the St. Bernard-Elmwood Place (Ohio) Titans last won a football game until last Friday.

On Saturday, August 31 in the season opener St. Bernard-Elmwood Place defeated Cincinnati (Ohio) Riverview East Academy, 13-12. The extra point made by senior Jessica Helphinstine provided the Titans with a win.

Three years ago, the school restarted their football program after taking a 50-year hiatus. St. Bernard-Elmwood, after playing a non-league schedule last year, is fully sanctioned program of the Ohio State High School Athletic Association.
