LUNGevity Auction winner David Gottfried and his teenage son Mark visited Comerica Park for the first time together from July 3 to July 4 when the Detroit Tigers hosted the Toronto Blue Jays. They were given tickets to attend both games as well as access to batting practice. On Friday night, the Gottfrieds were introduced to Vice President of Communications Ron Colangelo who introduced Mark, a catcher for his team back home in Maryland to Detroit Tigers catcher James McCann. The father-son duo also obtained autographs from Tigers outfielders J.D. Martinez and Rajai Davis while at batting practice. Just prior to the game, Mark was given the opportunity to deliver the lineup card to the umpiring crew alongside Detroit Tigers Pitching Coach Jeff Jones. That night, the Gottfrieds witnessed the Tigers’ snapping a three-game losing streak with an 8-6 victory.
On Saturday, prior to the game, the Gottfrieds were treated to another session of batting practice. Again, Ron Colangelo greeted them, but this time took Mark on a tour of the Detroit Tigers clubhouse. Following Mark’s trip in the clubhouse, father and son were treated to a tour of the ballpark, where important pieces of Tigers history were emphasized. They were also given a tour of the Ernie Harwell Media Center and spent several minutes with Detroit Tigers radio broadcasters Dan Dickerson and Jim Price, as well as FOX Sports Detroit commentators Mario Impemba and Rod Allen.
