All Cayden Taipalus wanted was to help his classmates have lunch. It started with Cayden and his family collecting bottles and cans and donations from family, friends and neighbors. Now, Cayden has an online donation page and has provided lunches for more than 4,000 students throughout Livingston County, Michigan. Cayden was recognized by Newtown Kindness as a Charlotte Bacon Act of Kindness Award recipient. As part of his recognition, Cayden, along with his parents and three brothers, spent the day at Comerica Park on Thursday, July 2. The day started with their arrival to the stadium, where they were escorted down to the field. While on the field, the family took pictures with former Detroit Tigers outfielder and current Fox Sports Detroit analyst Craig Monroe, as well as taking photos in the Tigers home dugout. Cayden shared his accomplishment with Vice President of Communication Ron Colangelo, who introduced Cayden and his family to former Tigers manager Jim Leyland. Cayden was then given the opportunity to share his story with Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez, who commended Cayden on this awesome act of kindness. Cayden’s day also included rides on the Big Cat Carousel and the Fly Ball Ferris wheel and featured a three-run home run by J.D. Martinez as part of a Tigers rally in the eighth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
