Brandon Cumpton was the player of the game for the Indianapolis Indians in their 4-2 victory over the Gwinnett Braves.
Coming into the game, Cumpton had a streak of 28.0 consecutive innings pitched on the road without having an eared run. The streak was snapped, though, at 29 when Derrick Mitchell scored in the second inning.Cumpton’s final line read eight innings pitched with one run on five hits. He walked two and struck out six. Daniel Schlereth and Josh Kinney combined to pitch the ninth inning.
On the offensive side of the game, Robert Andino hit his first home run of the season in the first inning. In the fourth inning, Nevin Ashley singled in two more runs. The Tribe scored their last run in the fifth inning on an RBI by Gregory Polanco.
The Indians split the series, losing game one on Saturday and game one of the double-header on Monday. They won game two with Casey Sadler pitching a 7-inning, complete game.
The Indians have Wednesday off and will be back on the field on Thursday for game one of a four-game series against the Charlotte Knights.
