Hey Cougars! There is an awesome program at the Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church for middle school and high schoolers. That program is Bible Quizzing.
Last weekend, the Bible Quizzers went to Winona Lake, Indiana, for a quiz competition. It was an exciting weekend. I was fortunate enough to be able to tag along to cheer them on!
The quizzers and coaches left on Friday night spent the night at the church where they were competing. The night was full of students running around and playing games and enjoying themselves before they would have to focus on the competition the next day.
After a morning devotion on Saturday and the opening ceremonies for the quiz, each team got ready to begin the day. The competition included team quiz matches and then an individual round. Steven White from the Spring Arbor team made it to individual finals. Going into the quiz, the team knew that the competition was going to be harder than previous competitions. They were disappointed when they didn’t place, but they plan to go into their next quiz ready to win.
The important thing about Bible quizzing is the material that they are studying. Yes it is important to try to win, but it is more important that they remember why they study. They spend week after week memorizing the Bible and hopefully they study in such a way that the Bible sticks with them forever.
Dr. Paul Patton, the chair of the communication department at SAU, came and presented his memorization of John 5 to the students and explained the importance the Bible memorization.
These students remind me that spending time in God’s word and memorizing it is more important than spending time on Facebook.
So Cougars, you should spend some time in God’s word so that way when the time comes, you will be able to spread the word of God to any person you meet.
Catch ya later, Cougs!
