The Cougars carried their momentum from the weekend’s wins against Marian University in their home stand against the Grace College Lancers. They would win both games, 11-3 and 2-0.
Jerry Ferris and Greg Blanco would pitch complete games. Ferris would give up three runs on six hits in game one while Blanco gave up no runs on two hits in game two.
Game one was chalk full of offense, scoring three runs on a Maverick Nichols double and a single by Tyler Baker who went 2-2 with 4 RBIs. The Cougars would continue to score their dominance scoring five more runs in the bottom of the second. Mark Weist would drive in two runs with a double to deep left. Nichols earned his third RBI with a single. Baker would score two more runs with a suicide squeeze. The Cougars would score another two runs in the bottom of the third courtesy of hits by Weist and Baker.
The Lancers would score three runs in the top of the fourth and the Cougars scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when Brian Doll doubled to right centerfield.
Blanco pitched a shutout in game two with the only Cougars offense coming in the bottom of the third. Weist would hit a triple scoring Brandon Katta and Billy Hochradel. The Lancers would threaten with a man in scoring position in the bottom of the fifth, but Blanco would shut down their offense by getting a ground out and strike out to end the inning.
The Cougars have extended their win streak to seven and are 6-0 in conference play and 10-9 overall. They will head to Winona Lake for a double header against Grace on Thursday April 4 before returning home to face Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday April 6 at 1 p.m.
